Creamy Beef Turnovers Recipe
Dough Ingredients:
1/2 c of ice water
1 Tbsp of sugar
1.75 c of shortening
1 Egg; beaten
1 Tbsp of vinegar
2 tsps of salt
4 c of flour
Filling Ingredients:
1/4 tsp of pepper
1 c of carrots; diced
1 onion (medium); minced
2 lbs of Lean ground beef; cooked
2 potatoes (medium); chopped in quarter cubes
1-2 tsp of salt
Prepare the dough. Combine the flour, salt and sugar altogether in one large mixing bowl. Stir well; and then add the shortening. Mix it well ’til the crumbs are rough.
Meanwhile, place the egg, vinegar and water in a small bowl and beat well. Gradually add it to the flour mixture (one tablespoon after another), stirring lightly after every addition.
Mix it well using your hand ’til the flour mixture takes the shape of ball. Afterward, cover this with cling wrap and refrigerate.
Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Pitch the ground beef, carrots, potatoes, onions, salt and pepper altogether into one large bowl. Mix it well, and set aside.
Preheat oven up to 375 degrees F.
Equally divide the flour mixture into approximately 15 balls. Lightly dust a clean kitchen surface with flour. Roll out each ball into a flat round dough (6.5 inches).
Spoon about 1/3 cup of the beef mixture onto one-half of the dough, leaving about half an inch of space on the edge. Dampen the edge using water; and then fold the dough over the beef filling.
Press the edge using a fork or your hand for sealing the pastry.
Transfer the turnovers to an oiled baking sheet. Make three (3) slits on top of the turnovers. Squeeze in or brush it with the cream.
Afterward, bake for 35 minutes ’til the beef is cooked, veggies are soft, and the shell is golden.
